No Ear, No Problem - Meet Rhinella yunga

Rhinella yunga is an impressive toad with large crests behind the eyes but NO EAR. The outer ear (the tympanum) and middle ear bone (the columella/stapes) are both missing in this toad.
However, that is not what makes yunga interesting. There are plenty of toads without ears but this one hears really well!!
Also, missing an ear doesn't stop the males of this species from being chatty. They vocalize to let me know they don't appreciate getting their hearing tested or sharing a hostal room with me at night.
